Vakıf Katılım Wins “Low Carbon Hero” Award for Its Solar Power Plant Project

13 Mayıs 2026

Vakıf Katılım was honored with the "Low Carbon Hero" Award in recognition of its 8.5 MWp Solar Power Plant Project in Nizip, Gaziantep, at a ceremony during the 11th Istanbul Carbon Summit, hosted by Istanbul Technical University.

Vakıf Katılım received the “Low Carbon Hero” Award for its 8.5 MWp Solar Power Plant Project constructed in the Nizip district of Gaziantep. The 11th Istanbul Carbon Summit, organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) and hosted by Istanbul Technical University on May 4–5, 2026, recognized projects that make a difference in combatting climate change.

Targeting an Annual Reduction of 7,380 Metric Tons in Carbon Emissions

Vakıf Katılım commissioned its Solar Power Plant (SPP) project, titled “Channeling Our Energy to the Future: Powered by Our Values and the Sun,” in the Nizip district of Gaziantep in November 2025, in line with its goal of powering its entire annual electricity consumption from renewable sources. Built on a 93,000-square-meter site with an installed capacity of 8.5 MWp, the plant is projected to generate approximately 15 million kWh of electricity per year and cut annual carbon emissions by 7,380 metric tons.

Offsetting Emissions Equivalent to 18,000 Trees Annually

Vakıf Katılım CEO Mehmet Ali Akben commented on the award: “At Vakıf Katılım, we regard renewable energy investments as an indispensable part of our responsibility toward future generations. In line with this vision, for our Solar Power Plant project commissioned in Nizip, Gaziantep, last year, we utilized a total of 14,612 solar panels, each with a capacity of 585 Wp. Currently, this plant meets the annual energy needs of our headquarters building and all our branches. Our project also offsets greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those absorbed by approximately 18,000 trees per year, making a significant contribution to environmental sustainability. Guided by our “Shared Past, Shared Future” philosophy, we draw strength from our values to work toward leaving a more livable world for future generations. This award is a testament to the dedicated efforts of all our colleagues, who have embraced our sustainability vision and transformed it into impactful, tangible projects. In the period ahead, we will continue to develop projects that generate environmental and social value.”
