Two board members and one advisory committee member were appointed during Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of Vakıf Katılım.
Having brought together the sharing culture of foundations with public power and brought a breath of fresh air to participation banking world, Vakıf Katılım announced the appointment of two Board Members and one Advisory Committee Member in its Ordinary General Assembly Meeting held under the chairmanship of Öztürk Oran, the Chairman of the Board.
Burhan Ersoy and Prof. Dr. Servet Bayındır were appointed as new Board Members and Prof. Dr. Mürteza Bedir was appointed as Advisory Committee Member.
Who is Burhan Ersoy?
Born in Samsun in 1958, Burhan Ersoy completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Amasya and his university education in Samsun.
He started his business life in Merzifon Agricultural Equipment Institution in 1976. He worked as Branch Manager in Ankara Education Center Directorate in 1984, in the Ministry of National Education Directorate General of Personnel and Department of Central Appointment in 1986. Between 1988 and 1991, he served as Advisor to State Ministry. From 1991 to 1996, he worked as the Branch Manager in the Prime Ministry General Directorate of Personnel and Principles and as the Deputy Chairman in the Press and Public Relations Department of the Prime Ministry. Since 1997, Burhan Ersoy has worked as a Consultant in various public institutions and in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and then in the Ministry of State. While serving as Department Head at the Prime Ministry General Directorate of Legislation Development and Publication, he was appointed as the Deputy General Manager of the General Directorate of Foundations in 2003.
Having also served as a Board Member in various organizations, Burhan Ersoy is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University and a Member of the Board of Vakıf Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ortaklığı A.Ş.
Mr. Ersoy has been appointed as the General Manager of Directorate General of Foundations and Chairman of the Foundations Council since 1 February 2020 and he is still in office.
As of 31 December 2020, he has been serving as Deputy Chairman/Member of the Board of Directors of Vakıf Katılım.
Who is Prof. Dr. Servet Bayındır?
Servet Bayındır was born in Erzurum in 1968 (1965 in official records). He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1993 and Anatolian University Faculty of Economics in 2005. He took his master’s degree in Marmara University with thesis “Evaluation of Special Financial Institutions in terms of Islamic Law” in 1995 and took his doctorate with thesis “The Place of Interest-Free Banking Transactions in Islamic Fiqh” in 2004. He received Arabic language education in Jordan University for eight months (2002-2003) and completed his second master’s degree in Certificate of Islamic Finance (CIFP) program in INCEIF Institute in Malaysia (2008-2010).
He assumed the title of Associate Professor in 2008 and the title of Professorship in 2014 with his studies in Islamic Economics and Finance. He founded “Islamic Economics and Finance” Department in İstanbul University and served as Head of Department for three years. He also founded Islamıc Economics Researches Foundation (İktisat) in 2019 and currently serves as President of the Foundation.
Having worked as teacher within the structure of the Ministry of National Education between years 1995 and 2001, Servet Bayındır has been appointed to be membership of Presidential Economic Policy Board on 13.10.2018 while he was serving as academic member in Faculty of Theology of İstanbul University in İslamic Law and İslamic Economics and Finance. Mr. Bayındır currently serves as member in Presidential Economic Policy Board and as academic member in university.
As of 31 December 2020, he has been serving as Board Member in Vakıf Katılım.
Who is Prof. Dr. Mürteza Bedir?
Prof. Dr. Mürteza Bedir graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University in 1992. He completed his master’s degree in Department of Law at University of London. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester with his thesis “Early Development of Hanafi Usul Al-Fiqh Legal Theory”. He has many studies in the fields of Islam/Hanafi Law Theory, Comparative Law, Islamic Law and Modernization, Fatwa Literature and “Foundation Law” as well. In addition to a series of books, including The Bukhara Law School: A Study in the Context of the Central Asian Foundation Law in the 10th - 13th Centuries”, “The Sacrifice Book; The Universal Message of the Prophet Mohammed: Sunnah; Fiqh, Madhhab and Sunnah: The Authority of the Prophet in the Hanafi Fiqh Theory, Prof. Dr. Mürteza Bedir also has many translations, articles, papers (academic) and encyclopedia articles. Prof. Dr. Bedir still continues to serve as a lecturer in the Faculty of Theology at İstanbul University.
As of 31 December 2020, Prof. Dr. Bedir has been serving as a member of the Advisory Committee of Vakıf Katılım.
